Thassos Island

Thassos is a green greek island in the Aegean Sea and it is famous for its clean beaches, its hospitality, its tasty vine and the delicious honey.

Thasos or Thassos is a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea, close to the coast of Thrace and the plain of the river Nestos but geographically part of Macedonia.

It is the northernmost Greek island.

Thassos is part of the North-Eastern Aegean Islands and is located on the most northern part of the group,

near the island of Samothraki, and 10 kilometers south-east of Kavala, on the mainland.

Ferryboats and hydrofoils connect the island with Kavala and Keramoti.

There are daily connections as follows:

* Ferryboat between Keramoti and Thassos 35 min

* Hydrofoil between Kavala and Thassos Town 45 min

Coastal lines connect Kavala and the North Aegean islands throughout the year while in the summer months Kavala is connected with all the islands in the Aegean Sea.

The ferries running between the Keromoti, Thassos and Kavala, Skala Prinos always leave the port at the scheduled time.

You should plan to be at the ferry at least one half hour before departure if traveling with automobile.

In August and on Holiday weekends you should be there at least an hour before departure time if you are on a schedule that must be kept.

During these days it is not uncommon to be in a queue for hours as the ferries do fill to capacity and leave so that you may be waiting for the next available ferry.

During these periods, additional ferries may be added, but not scheduled to meet the high demand.

All ferries have air conditioning in the summer and smoking is permitted on the decks.

Only two ferries, the Red ones have a smoking area inside.

Drinks and snacks can be purchased on most all ferries.

An attraction of the Tripiti Beach is the natural bathtub with his cave exit leading within the open sea.

Paradise Beach is of the finest and most stunning sandy beaches of Thassos and is located between Aliki and Kinira.

The water is extremely flat and at east wind you will find here great waves.

Next to a little tavern there is a Beachvolleyball-field.

Paradise Beach is of the couple of beaches where naked bathing is allowed.

It is also extremely appreciated by nudists.

Once you have visited the emerald island of Thassos, the jewel of the North Aegean,

it is easy to understand the allure of this mountainous island of pine forests, golden beaches and lovely villages.

You can take a scenic bus trip around the island, stop at the pretty village of Aliki

for a bite to eat in one of several stone houses turned into fish tavernas along its sandy crescent beach.

The main town, Limenas, is about 15 km from Prinos Beach. The town stands on the site of the ancient city of Thassos.

The houses, with enclosed wooden balconies and slate roofs, are authentic examples of local folk architecture.

Thassos island has a single circular road around the coast, well maintained and with good signposting, so driving on Thassos is pretty good.
